I went shopping yesterday to get a few non potato groceries. I just went to the closest store to me, which is just an average size store. I was surprised to see how much space was given for various plant milks.
This isn't the best picture to show what I'm talking about but from top to bottom this was all plant milks, and there was another half section of plant milks! I still remember when it was soy or rice milk, and neither was very good. I actually started drinking coffee black when I first went vegan because a lot of time back then soy milk would curdle in coffee. The lack of vegan creamer options did factor into my decision to give up coffee! It's encouraging to see the progress.
I've been experimenting with coconut sugar in my morning Chai tea instead of white sugar. I like coconut sugar in tea, and banana nice cream, but in the past I tried using it for baking, and I find when it's baked it loses a lot of it's sweetness. Has anyone else noticed this?
The dried garbanzo beans were on sale for ninety-nine cents! That's cheaper than bulk! I was getting really spoiled by Trader Joe's great prices on canned beans, and I'm working on getting back into cooking dried beans. I really like the So Delicious coconut creamer, (especially hazelnut) but I have to say my favorite is Trader Joe's coconut creamer. Even though it's not flavored, it seems like it's thicker, and it's definitely a better price.
I still miss Dylan every day of my life, and it's still hard for me to live in a world without him, my feline family has really rallied around me and are constantly being dorks which makes life a little easier. Chunk used to need a little help getting to higher places, so now that he's able to get on top of cupboards and the fridge he thinks he's Mr. Amazing. This week he has become obsessed with sleeping on top of the fridge. He likes looking down on the world!

Happy Tuesday!
I remember in my old apartment we lived next to a retirement apartment complex, so the supermarket nearby had food targeting that age group. And even there they had a few different soy and almond milk brands! I think it is more popular since people are trying to cut calories, and because people are lactose intolerant. Plus, I like faux milk more than the real stuff anyways.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I never liked milk, and even with plant milk I never really sit down and drink a glass. I just love all the options, and I love knowing that so many people are buying plant milk!
DeleteI love all of the plant milk and creamer options I've seen recently! I haven't been able to find any hazelnut plant based creamers lately though which is my favorite! For some reason I've only seen French vanilla. I also want to try coconut sugar. Those snapea crisps are my fav!
ReplyDeleteThe hazelnut is soooooo good! It tastes really good with chai tea. The French vanilla is good too, but the hazelnut is out of this world! I love the snapea crisps are my favorite crispy, salty snack.
DeleteTrader joe's coconut creamer really is the best. I also really like the refridgerated almond milk at trader joe's which is $2.99 all the time.
ReplyDeleteI love all the options now too- i remember the same nasty bean flavor soymilk as the only choice way back when.
Chunk is so adorable!!
Ttrockwood
I love their almond milk too! I remember my first time trying soymilk. It was not good. I remember I used to not like using it in cooking because it would curdle, and also it had such a strong bean taste, it overpowered other flavors. It's so crazy how far we've come in just a few years!
DeleteChunk is super adorable. He makes me smile every day!
Haha, yes, plant milk has come a long way! I remember getting a really bad tummy bug thing in about 1993 and my doctor told me to cut out dairy for a month. There was just one brand if soya milk you could get in the UK then and it tasted disgusting. How times have changed for the better!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first went vegan, I thought if soy and rice milk were my only options, maybe I should just not bother trying to replace it! The first time I added soy milk to my coffee it curdled! I was traumatized! I'm so glad for progress!
DeletePlant Milks and their frig space as of late has me doing a little dance in the stores every time I see it!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I see more and more carts with plant milk in them, and it's just really great news.
