Angry Chocolate

I've had several people come through my line at work and rave about this chocolate. One lady lectured me for a pretty long time about fair trade chocolate, and she said this is a great company and her preferred chocolate. This stuff is spendy, but I had a few bucks left on a work gift card a co-worker had gotten me so I decided to give it a try. Anyone who has been reading this blog knows that I was a milk chocolate girl in my pregan days. I've always been somewhat ashamed of that fact, it seems so sophisticated and worldly to like dark chocolate. This is a very sophisticated chocolate bar. I believe Susan would love this bar. I think she once said she likes her chocolate "dark, bitter and angry at the world" I had a few squares and was very satisfied. The bar is also much thicker than other chocolate bars so the squares have some heft.
Here's my very simple dinner. Gluten free spirals tossed with some marinara and topped with nooch of course.
We're having some kin of gross BBQ/ Smoker "event" coming up at work. You can get ribs with various side dishes etc. They're smoking the ribs at the store and there are signs everywhere for it. So last night some guy asked me if the ribs were good and I said I don't eat meat. It was funny because he said he was sorry for me that I didn't eat it and I said don't be because I am perfectly happy and content with what I  eat. After he left my co-worker was so irritated that he was so rude about it. And she's not even a vegan! The funniest thing is that I am so desensitized to rude or dumb comments I didn't even feel the slightest bit offended. But it was sweet of my coworker to clutch her pearls for me!!

  1. I received a bar of super dark chocolate in my Christmas stocking and so, for New Years Eve, I melted it with a tablespoon or two of Earth Balance plus some Almond/Cashew milk and dipped strawberries in it. It never solidified completely like store bought chocolate-dipped strawbs, but man was it yummy. I kind of made my own "milk" chocolate out of the dark chocolate.

  2. That was sweet of your coworker! That sounds like a potential gross smelling week at work as well. Yuck.
That is exactly how I described my ideal chocolate. ;) I see this bar has 70% cocoa, which is low compared to my ideal 90-100% bitter block of darkness, but I would be keen to try it out if I ever get a chance. I definitely find that I am more quickly satisfied with a few squares of good dark chocolate, where as lighter chocolates I end up eating a lot more and still not feeling complete. But that block does indeed look hefty!

  3. I used to be a milk chocolate girl myself! I like dark chocolate too, but one isn't more sophisticated than the other. If the chocolate is too dark for you as is then just chop some really fine and stir it into some almond milk with a little sugar or agave to taste for a killer hot chocolate- the almond milk will make it more mild like a milk chocolate. Or you could make the crazy coconut oil fudge- melt the chocolate with some coconut oil and add some coconut cream (coconut milk is too thin), then you basically just refridgerate til it's solid and have fudge! Really easy and tasty, there are better recipes on the internet with proper measurements.
And the bbq at work sounds supergross! That is really great your coworker is sensitive and thoughtful, sometimes a small gesture like that can really mean a lot. Hopefully you don't have to work that day or can distance yourself from the actual cooking/meat smoke. Any news on moving to produce??

  4. Ooooh that chocolate sounds so good and definitely rich enough that you'll be able to savor it for a while! That was so sweet of your coworker was sensitive to your feelings and it shows that people are empathetic and willing to defend other people's beliefs. Some silver linings I think!

  6. haha! We get so many dumb responses as vegans that I don't notice some of those rude comments as well.

I love dark chocolate but I do love white and milk chocolate. I think my favorite vegan one is Sea Salt & Turbinado Sugar. It is SOOO creamy and yummy!
