Bloom!

I'm not sure if this is a tree or a bush, but I saw it the other day and thought it was so cute I had to take a picture!
It's been raining a lot here in SLC, so everything is so lush and green and it seems like everyday more and more things are blooming. I can't say it enough, I so love spring!
For dinner last night I made an oldie but goodie. Lemon-y garlic potatoes from Veganomicon. I love this recipe so much. I also had a green salad with Romaine and sliced sweet peppers. So light and fresh.
I've tried a few gluten free baked goods in the past and to be honest I was less than impressed. But I saw these cookies on sale and decided to try them. Chocolate chunk brownie sounded pretty dang tasty. I am very pleasantly surprised, they're really good! They're soft, with chunks of chocolate and a really rich chocolate flavor. I probably would never guess they were gluten free if I just randomly tried one someplace. I would definitely buy these again!
Although spring started out super warm, it's cooled down a little. Enough that I've had to turn the heat on a few nights. Here's Joan in her favorite spot, laying on the vent in the bathroom. Notice she has a twist tie by her front paw, and her favorite mouse by her back paws. A girls gotta be prepared!

  2. I'm impressed by the number of WooHoo sales you get on stuff. In the Northeast, everything is super expensive. The cost of living here is prohibitive. The only time I get super good bargains is on the Stop-n-Shop damaged items rack. It includes dented cans, torn boxes and any discontinued products. I need me some WooHoo deals.

    1. I'm actually really impressed with the woohoo deals I find at Smith's. And also the clearance section of Natural Grocers. It really is helpful when on a budget. Too bad you don't have a Grocery Outlet, I loved that store so much when I lived in Seattle.

    2. I have no idea what a Grocery Outlet is, but I like the sound of it. I'm like you, I think, in that I'll visit three different stores just to find the deals. I assume Seattle was an expensive place to live as well.

    3. Grocery Outlet is like an outlet store but for food. They are always carrying different things, so it's kind of like thrift shopping. They have some out of this world deals, especially on specialty vegan items. Sometimes they have very few vegan stuff, but when they do it's a total jackpot!
I'm lucky in that Natural Grocers, Trader Joe's, Sprouts and Smiths are all kind of in the same area so I can hit them all up and get the best deals.
Seattle is insanely expensive but I miss it so.

  3. That is a beautiful tree or bush- spring is great. There is still some snow or mixed weather in the forecast. I had a walk in the rain today- 40 degrees and had to pull out the winter jacket again. I also had to turn up the heat. You really do seem to get some good bargains. I just had some Girl Scout thin mint cookies- hard to resist. I broke down and got a box this year.

  5. How weird, my comment disappeared! Anyway, what I said the first time was that the blossoms look gorgeous! I can't wait until we start to bloom here too, even if it means allergies for me haha. What a great deal on the cookies and even better that they taste good! Everyone needs a treat sometimes!

How cute is Joan?! That is hilarious, she is stocked with toys and comfy in her favorite spot :)

    1. I know, my allergies have been acting up lately. I have a serious runny nose and eyes problem. The cost of all those beautiful blooms I guess!
The cookies are a real treat. I haven't had a proper chocolate chunk cookie in quite awhile, especially since going gluten free!
Joan is so hilarious! Always ready to play that girl!
