Halo No!

Since my Mofo theme is budget, I wanted to make a post warning everyone I can about this abomination trying to pass as ice cream. I first saw the vegan Halo Top at Whole Foods a few months ago but it was over seven dollars a pint which I can't afford, especially for something I'm not sure if I'll even like! Plus I know it's a protein thing and I'm not into protein powders at all!
I noticed Winco has a few vegan flavors and they're around $3.48 a pint. I decided to try a pint with an open mind. It's soy free and made with coconut milk. You guys, it's bad. It's real bad. The taste of protein powder is so incredibly strong that I really couldn't taste anything else. It also has Erythritol in it so it has a bitter aftertaste. I could only take like three bites. My mouth was coated with a protein powder film. It was not enjoyable at all. If you're seriously counting calories, I would just make some banana soft serve.
Whether you're on a budget or not, this is not worth the splurge!!

  1. Don't hold back, Hilary. Tell us how you really feel. :)

Actually, this was helpful since I keep eyeing the Halo Top whenever I go to the supermarket. I recently tried Haagen Dasz and it was really good, so now I know to avoid the HT.

  2. NOOO! DON'T THROW IT OUT GIVE IT TO ME! I love that stuff, but I would quickly say not to try it for MANY people I know. lol. I feel like people who are protein powder freaks (like me) love it, and I love almost ANYTHING cold and sweet. I will say, I didn't dig the Candy Bar flavor. I liked their cinnamon roll one much better.

  3. Oh I am also shocked how popular these low-cal ice creams are! I hear so many people hate them, and only protein powder lovers who really enjoy it. Maybe I am not talking to enough people? Or people are just dealing with it for the lower calories?

    1. I know, there are like three different brands. I think a lot of people are like you and enjoy the protein powder, but I also think a lot of people kind of eat it for the low calories. I think it's probably 50/50!

  4. I don't like it either. So glad I'm not alone. I melted mine on top of a mug cake, which made it better.

  6. Haha, didn’t even know there was such a thing as vegan halo top!
I don’t even understand how they can sell the stuff as “food”, the ingredients are like a science experiment plus a shitton of sugar alcohols.

  7. I always hear people talk about how great halo top is and I always wonder why. I've never tried it but I just have a hard time seeing how a low cal ice cream can possibly stand up to regular ice cream. Why not just eat one serving of regular, DELICIOUS vegan ice cream than a whole pint of garbage low cal ice cream?

    1. It's so funny that you say that because I watched a review on YouTube and the person said exactly the same thing an I couldn't agree more. Hell I'd rather have a half serving of a great vegan ice cream than a pint of this!!!

  8. I tried the peanut butter cup one and I'd say its more of a frozen desert type thing than ice cream.I'm definitely not buying again myself I prefer the So Delious Cookie Dough so I'm sticking with that.

  9. We have a couple of flavours of the vegan ones here, but I have never been enticed to try it. I'll stick with my So Delicious.
