I saw this at Natural Grocers, it's Portobello mushroom jerky! They actually had a big selection of vegan jerky, more than non vegan jerky. I like the name, Fungy Jerky. I've dated a lot of those. Sorry, I had to.
I took a different street to catch my bus, and I fell in love with this tree. I had to take this picture because the tree is so beautiful, but also yesterday was such an amazingly gorgeous day. I had a setback this week that threw me for a loop, and I've been fighting a losing battle with the blues, but it was hard to feel blue walking through such a beautiful neighborhood on such a perfect day.
This was on clearance for one dollar! It was actually pretty tasty! |
Pizza dough, lemons,spinach,cabbage,avocado,taco mix,bananas |
BBQsauce,potatoes,fizzy water,frozen pineapple, frozen raspberries,and barely seen rice. |
Discount too ripe bananas, booch, grilled tofu, Daiya yogurt, and candy!!! |
I tried the daiya yogurt this morning, and I wasn't a fan. It has that daiya aftertaste, but like a sweet version of the aftertaste. The black cherry taste was really good, it just tasted very made in a lab.
Most importantly, last night I made pulled mushroom BBQ sliders with the trumpet mushrooms. Guys, these babies are a game changer. They shred very easily with a fork, you just slice them down the middle and shred away.
I sauteed a finely diced onion with some garlic powder, and once the onions were soft, I added the shredded mushrooms. After a few minutes, I added about 3/4 of a cup of the sriracha BBQ sauce, and let it all simmer for about fifteen or twenty minutes. I made a little slaw and some fries while the shrooms were simmering. I made little sliders because I have never had a slider, and I feel really late on the trends. I'm in love with this dish. The mushrooms are meaty, and much more filling than jackfruit. And the texture is perfect. I hate saying meaty, because I really don't desire meaty, but it's go oomph. I prefer oomph to meaty. This is a perfect meal for a mixed crowd, I feel like this would appeal to non vegans.
Simmering away! |
Sliders and fries! |
Happy Friday!
I have never heard of those mushrooms but would love to track them down to try this. I love Pulled Jackfruit but as you say it is not that filling. I was puzzling over the barely seen rice thinking that it must be a type of rice with tiny grains when I realised what you meant, lol.
ReplyDeleteI noticed right away that the mushroom sliders filled me up so much more than jackfruit, and I stayed full for the whole night. That's the only downside of jackfruit.
DeleteHa ha on the rice!
What great mushroomy sliders! The sale tofu is such a fabulous find, i wish that happened to me more often.... I agree on that daiya yogurt, it was really disappointing. And just weird.
ReplyDeleteSunshine and a nice walk outside can do wonders for my mood too

The sliders were sooooo good. I'm having the leftovers for breakfast!!
DeleteThe daiya yogurt was super disappointing. I would hate for a non vegan to try that. And it isn't that cheap either.
I just saw this great article about stuff at TJs labeled as vegetarian that's actually vegan (!) note that i read TJs is now labeling anything made *on the same machinery or in the same facility as* any dairy as vegetarian and not vegan, which is kind of intense. But therefore just because it isn't labeled as vegan doesn't mean the ingredients are not.

Thanks for that. Sometimes it's confusing because they're so good at labeling things vegan, but other things appear to be vegan and don't have that V, so I wonder what I'm missing.
Delete*hugs for you*
ReplyDeleteThose sliders look amazing! I love mushrooms, but have never seen them used in this way before.
I only recently came across this idea. Ilove mushrooms too, and I had never even heard of trumpet mushrooms before!
DeleteNever heard of shredded mushrooms before! But since you said it was pretty good, I will keep my eyes peeled for any sales for that style of mushroom to try it out!
ReplyDeleteIt's soooo good! I've seen recipes for bbq mushrooms just using sliced mushrooms, but these were kind of cool because they shred. And they're so much more filling than jackfruit!
