So, yesterday I went to a very special vegan place to drop off a resume! I went to the place where all the magic happens, Field Roast! It's really a trek from where I live, like an hour on the bus. It's in a very weird, not very pretty part of Seattle, I think it's the industrial district or something. But when I walked into the building, it smelled soooo Field Roasty! It smelled like they were making the Italian sausages that day! To be in the building of the company that makes Chao slices is kind of overwhelming to say the least. It felt magical! They were very nice, as I expected.

I also tried a few new to me thangs I discovered at Grocery Outlet. First up I was finally able to try this Revolution Tangerine juice that I have been DYING to try, but I also die when I see the $10.99 price tag at the grocery store. But the outlet had it for under five, so I splurged because I love and adore tangerines!
It is really delicious, but I still would never pay $10.99 for a bottle. I decided to blend some with some raspberries and see if raspberries and tangerines love each other as much as oranges and strawberries. The answer is yes they do! It's sweet, and tart and also a very beautiful color.
I also tried one of the Cup o Noodle type things from Dr. McDougall. It was okay, I'm not a big fan of ramen /cup o noodle type things because I have been that poor, and it kind of brings up bad memories, but these were quite a step up from basic ramen.
The ingredient list is nice and natural, and it had nice size pieces of wakame seaweed in the broth, which you certainly won't find in other packaged ramen. These cups would be great road trip food because you can get some hot water from any gas station/7-11.
I also went to the library to make copies of my resume, and I found another new to me vegan cookbook!

It looks like this book was published in 2012. Somehow I've never heard of it. The book starts with recipes from U.S.A. and ending in Japan, with many regions in between! It looks like there are some amazing recipes in here! I see complicated recipes, (hello France) and recipes that are a little simpler, but still with lots of flavors. I'm going to pick up some produce from Trader Joe's today, and hopefully that and this cookbook will inspire me in the kitchen. I've been in a bit of a rut. Have you ever had someone just kind of suck the life out of you, and it takes awhile to feel alive again? That's where I am right now. Before the break-up and having such hate spewed my way, I was feeling inspired and I was writing every day ( separate from this blog) and just feeling really inspired, and I just have lost all of it. I kind of had two people rip me apart in a short span of time, and I'm just having a hard time keeping my spirits up. That coupled with the pressure and constant rejection of job searching is taking a toll on my ego. So, I hope to find a few exciting recipes to try out in the kitchen. I always find cooking is great therapy, and you get a reward afterwards!

FANTASTIC and good luck on that resume! That would be AWESOME!!! I enjoy the Chao Slices but have had little to none of the fake meats. I've heard a slew about them, tho! And with your Dr. McDougalls - I grabbed a bunch this past weekend and will be blogging about them tomorrow for MidWeek Munchies! YAY!

ReplyDeleteI do enjoy McDougalls and wish there were more offerings around here! They are a great convenience item with the soups! I haven't had them in a while but enjoying them again!

DeleteWe are just starting to get some Field Roast products where I live but not that Chao yet. Good luck with the resumes. Everything crossed for some good news soon. Cooking helps me when I'm a bit low. Helps to feel I'm doing something nourishing for myself.
