The One With No Cat Pictures!

First of all, I'd like to start out by saying that yesterday my original post had a video added. The first paragraph made no sense without it, because it was about the video! The video was there when I published my post, and then it disappeared. So, I did a second post with the video if you're interested. How random, and it really made me look random! So, sorry for that weird sloppiness!
I went in search of a bishop and the library yesterday. I got lost( thanks bus driver) but I did find the library. It is a mega glass building, the polar opposite of what I was expecting. It reminded me of buildings in movies where it's all glass. There are three stories, and the elevators are all glass! To be honest, I like my libraries to be less flashy, but like everything else, I will adjust, however grumpily. I now have library cards from three states. And I used the cards often! I am immensely proud of that for some reason.
This is a library!!

When you first enter
This who;e thing is part of the library! There is a little stand for food and drink, a flower shop, a used book shop, a "library" shop, all kinds of things. To be honest, I usually feel a comfortable feeling when I walk into a library, like I'm home. This made me feel like I was in a mall to be honest, and I felt itchy. I know I'm being curmudgeonly about this, but it was a shock to say the least. Anyway, it is a beautiful building, and very light. And the lady who helped me get my card was VERY nice. Side note, in all honesty, I've lived in A LOT of places, and Salt Lake City has the absolute nicest people EVER. And it's genuine, very sincere. I love it. I've had people offer to give me rides when I've been lost, and not pervy men, trying to take advantage of a situation, but twice it's been women. Okay, back to the library, it even has a coffee shop inside of the library!! The vegan cookbooks are on the third floor, so I took the fancy glass elevator. I don't think I've ever ridden in one. I should have taken a picture!
Library Haul!!

Sorry for the glare! They have a pretty decent vegan cookbook section. The lady who gave me my card told me that there is a big straight edge community here, and so that helps the vegan market. She told me it's very hard to find a restaurant that isn't vegan friendly. That made me sooooo happy! If you're straight edge, SLC would be a perfect city considering the drinking laws! I've never looked at Veganize This before. It looks pretty good. I only got cookbooks, because I still have another book to finish reading before I start another. Plus, books are heavy, and sometimes I get too many, and my shoulders are DYING by the time I get home.
I stopped at two churches to talk to a bishop, but both were locked!! I actually didn't know churches locked their doors. I'm calling the one closest to my apartment to see if I need to make an appointment. GAHHHH!
I was going to make pizza last night, (I needed comfort) and I got a little creative. I love my kitchen so much I can't put it into words. I actually didn't realize how much I truly hated my kitchen in Seattle until I got this kitchen. Anyway, I decided to make pizza rolls, like cinnamon but pizza. I just rolled the dough into it's normal rectangle shape, and spread the sauce, some garlic, green olives and vegan shreds and rolled it up, and sliced it.
Before Baking

After baking
These were great, the only thing I will change next time is the cheese. The Trader Joe's shreds really liquefy when heated. That isn't sauce leaking out, that's liquid cheese! I think they're probably best for mac and cheese, or Alfredo, or just any kind of cheese sauce. So probably with Daiya shreds this would be perfect. I feel like this would be great for game days and parties. And I feel like it would be a success even at a mixed crowd shindig.
Yay for dipping!
A little budget food update, I am now on day seven of eating from my haul last week, and I'm still not out of food. I'm going to Smith's today to get cat food, so I will pick up a few small things to stretch my food through the weekend, and then do a shop on Monday. Not bad for a little over forty dollars, for all meals for over seven days! And my meals haven't been all beans and rice either!
Happy Friday, and Here's to finding a Bishop!

  1. Hey there, Blake here. Except for the crazy, runny cheese those pizza rolls look delish! I'd love to make them this weekend. Can you let me know what kind of dough you used? Was it just store bought pizza dough? Take care.

    1. I used Trader Joe's pizza dough for this recipe. I learned that if you let it rest outside of the fridge for about thirty minutes, it's a drem to work with. I hope you love them!

    2. Thanks! Oh, also...are those olives??? Sort of a puttanesca pizza. I'm going to do exactly the same as you did, but substitute either Daiya or Chao (I don't know if I'm spelling that right) Cheese. Have a nice weekend!! -- Blake

    3. Yes, green olives, marinara, garlic and of course cheese. I think Chao original or even the coconut herb would be amazing in this. Daiya would be great too, anything but Trader Joe's shreds!!

  2. Wow, those pizza rolls! I need to have a go at those. Inspired by you I am going to make quesadillas for the first time this weekend. The library looks amazing but I can see what you mean about it being different to most! When I worked at a public art gallery it was an old building connected to a new glass extension. People were not keen on the glass lifts and complained! The gallery ended up putting an opaque coating part way up the glass on one to accommodate those that had the fear. Looking forward to seeing if you make anything from the books especially Isa Does It as I have that one.

    1. For some reason, I thought the library would be like an old, majestic looking brick building. like some of the older churches around here. Judging by how fancy everything was, the libraries budget must be pretty good. I think next time I go, I will take the stairs!
I'm going to make the Goddess noodles this weekend from Isa Does It, and I have several more recipes bookmarked!

  3. That's great you found the library, even though you got lost & it wasn't what you were expecting. Yay for everyone being so nice & for the library having a good selection of vegan cookbooks! Your pizza rolls look so fun & delicious! :)

    1. I am getting better. This wasn't a major getting lost like when I first got here, and so I say progress not perfection! The pizza rolls were really a new way to have pizza. And I always love food that you eat with your hands and dip!

    3. I'm actually pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and going to this! I'm going to try to be one of the first to get there, because they're giving tote bags full of coupons and free stuff to the first 100 people! I'm nervous, but I'm going!

  4. I remember my husband (or his father) talking about how there were a few libraries 10-20 years back who got grants to workout new systems. It was the way for libraries to compete with places like Barnes and Noble. Our local library was one of the places (TOTALLY not that fancy though) and they try and have featured picked books, a "coffee section" (our doesn't sell coffee though), and it was one of the first few libraries to have a "wifi" cafe. So I am guessing that is why there are shops at your SLC library. Truthfully, I like the idea of having a coffee shop near the library. I use to hate going to Starbucks (or someplace else) carry my coffee to the library and read while I wait for my ride.

    1. I liked it much better the second time I went. It was quite the shock the first time. I am all for a cafe at a library, perfect for those dreary days. And they do kind of have it set up like a bookstore now that you mentioned that. The building and the views are really breathtaking to be honest.
