Monday Stuff

Well, I tried one of my clearance kombuchas yesterday and lets just say I wish I would have bought five more! When I lived in Erie I drank Reeds kombucha a lot. At most groceries it was either Reeds or GT's unless you were at the Whole Foods Co-Op. But once I moved back to Seattle there were tons of choices, and actually I didn't see Reeds that often. Same thing here in SLC, I think Natural Grocers is the only place that sells them. And I always just buy whatever is on sale. But I had never had or heard of this flavor. It's so delicious and refreshing! It's nice and ginger-y, and also nice and fruity from the mango, passion fruit and orange juice. This is my new favorite flavor, and I might have to see if Natural Grocers will carry this flavor. This would be really wonderful on a hot day. If you see this flavor, you should definitely try it. And Reeds doesn't have any weird floaties in it, which is another reason I love them!
For dinner I made the garlic curry fries from Isa Does It. I served them with a salad with Romaine and pepperoncini with Greek vinaigrette. I love that the potatoes are sliced lengthwise, kind of like a longboard chip. I dipped them in sriracha ketchup and it was a nice and spicy meal. Just when I think I've done all with the potato!

I found a SubWay on Saturday, and I didn't know how to get a napkin without buying something which kind of defeats the purpose of a boycott, so I just asked the girl if I could buy a few napkins. I was soaking wet from the rain so I guess it wasn't a weird request. I gave her a quarter for three or four napkins. Hopefully she just pocketed the quarter and didn't put it in the register. I sent this to the Humane League, and I will be posting it on my Twitter and Instagram as well. I've also already handed out some pamphlets. I find sometimes when I mention that I'm vegan, people ask questions or express interest so that's when I swoop in with information and a pamphlet. I'm learning that we're all different, and working with our own individual strengths and personalities is the most productive.

Here is where everyone except Joan hides when I vacuum. This side of my bed is so full of fur and in need of being vacuumed, but I just don't have the heart to push it back there because they are so scared! Afro and Etta stay pouty and hidden for quite awhile after I've put it away. Joan isn't scared, as a matter of fact she sometimes goes after the vacuum, like she wants to fight it!
Happy Monday!

  1. Happy Monday to you! It's a rainy day today, but not supposed to be an all day thing. I have been looking at recipes this am and they are making me hungry. I had a banana so far- some info says don't eat them and other things say they are the best for you. Do you like bananas? Well, I better get busy and do something productive with my day. Talk to you later.

    1. I do like bananas. I eat one or two everyday in my smoothies. I believe that they are very healthy.

  2. Roxy, Kanye, Joan, Afro, Etta- did I remember all of your fur babies? How did they get their names?

    1. Great memory! Roxy is named after a character in the musical Chicago, Joan is named after Joan Rivers, Afro had this fuzzy mane that blew in the breeze when she was a kitten, and she also has an alter ego named Brutus because every so often she gets a little aggressive, Kanye is named after Kanye West because she can be a brat and a loudmouth, but she's also very smart, and Etta is named after Etta James who sings one of the most beautiful songs ever, At Last.

    2. Thanks for the origins of your fur babies' names. Memory probably won't last forever.

  4. Yay for discount kombucha! I brew my own, but since I drink it daily, I often run out before my next batch is done. And then I have to buy bottled stuff, and it's expensive!! Wish I could find some on-sale.

Btw, I bought a 5-pound bag of russet potatoes on sale for 99 cents yesterday, and it made me think of you! <3

    1. I need to get back into brewing my own. It's soooo much cheaper. I seriously have an entire cupboard full of empty booch bottles just waiting for me to get back into brewing.
That's such a great deal for five pounds of spuds!! Woot woot!

  5. Hi! Why are you boycotting Subway? Sorry if you explained it already and I missed the post.

    1. No problem! I recently started volunteering with The Humane League, and they are fighting to get Subway to care about the welfare of the chickens in their supply chain, and they are being stubborn. So they have a campaign of people showing that they are boycotting.

    2. Good to know about Subway. Sadly, I stopped eating at subway a LOOONG time ago. I hate when boycotts happen to places I don't go to.

    3. That's so funny, I stopped eating there when I heard about the yoga mat ingredient in their bread. So I too was a little bummed to be boycotting a place i already boycott!

    4. Thanks for the explanation! I actually haven't eaten at Subway since 2008, which was before I went vegan, because they had stale bread.

    5. I know, I stopped eating there a long time ago too, so it's not much of a boycott on my end, but I can at least spread the word!
