Just Another Vegan Haul

Well, it's that time of the week when I go and get some groceries. I guess I don't need to show pictures cause it's kind of always the same thing, but I did have a few coupons from my Vegfest bag that I used at Natural Grocers, so maybe it's a little more exciting. To save money, I am really going out on a limb this week.Remember when I first moved here and got lost for a whole day trying to find Sprouts? Well, that day traumatized me so much I have not gone back to Sprouts. Like I have had no desire. Well, I got a flyer from them and they are having a seventy two hour sale starting Friday. They are going to have all kinds of amazing deals on produce. And honestly, when you're on a budget, fresh fruit and veggies can be very limited. So, I got some things at Trader Joe's, a few things at Natural Grocers, and I'll brave the great unknown and try to find Sprouts tomorrow. It's like I have no memory of how I even got there! When I was at Natural Grocers last week, I noticed that they had Tofurky deli slices on sale, and I had a seventy five cents off coupon, (at home) so yesterday I got Tofurky slices for a little over a dollar! I ate sooooo many of them when I first went vegan! Funny story, Dylan LOVED tofurky slices. Even the peppered which I always found funny. Well, Joan decided one day that she wanted to try what Dylan was having, and she fell in love too! So she was a super happy girl yesterday. I kind of got them more for her than even me to be honest!
I've heard a little buzz about this Date Lady stuff. They also have date syrup, or date maple syrup or something like that. I would have loved to try it, but that itty bitty bottle of caramel sauce was nine dollars. To be honest with you, based on principle I wouldn't buy it even if I could afford it. But regardless, it's always fun to see new to me vegan stuff pop up!
booch, vegan taquitos, tofurky slices, candy and vitamin C fizzy stuff

I had a coupon for those taquitos from my vegfest bag, and I remember trying them years ago and liking them. I am concerned because the only flavor they had was vegan chorizo and black bean. I have never been a fan of vegan chorizo, and I don't know why. I love all the spices, and flavors used, I just don't like it. It's always so dang oily and greasy. But it's been awhile since I've had any vegan junk food so we'll see.
I had to take this picture in Trader Joe's because I was just saying that you rarely see watercress in regular groceries!!
Bananas, frozen corn, frozen pineapple, frozen mango, spinach

Sweet chili sauce, pita bread, tomato paste, refried beans, coconut milk, avocado,  green tahini dip, ground ginger, turmeric and smoked paprika
cilantro, tofu, lemons, lettuce, and green onions. And pita bread as seen above. OOPS
I heard someone talking about the green tahini sauce, and they said it tasted like Tabouli in a dip, so I had to try this. I know it will be super easy to recreate, but I have to taste the original first, right? I also finally got their Bollywood popcorn which mysteriously did not end up in the pictures, but boring old pita bread made it twice. I have two sleeping beauties that I don't want to disturb or I would go take a picture now. It's just popcorn with vegan Tikka Masala spices on it! I've been looking at it longingly for awhile. I'll probably be trying it today, so when I do I'll take a picture.
Happy Thursday!

  1. Glad to see you got some smoked paprika. Since I discovered it about a year ago, I cannot live without it. I had no idea how much different it was from regular paprika until I tried it. It's my new favorite spice (well, maybe tied with cumin for first place). It adds an amazing depth of flavor.

    1. I know, I love it soo much, and I was hoping to find it in bulk, but I couldn't and I was so sad because it's like double the price of regular paprika, but Trader Joe's rocks! Cumin and smoked paprika are my favorite spices to put on potatoes. It really adds the most amazing flavor.

  2. Aw, Joan! You can tell she's really enjoying that Tofurky. Good luck at Sprouts, hope you get some great bargains. Make sure you report back on it. I'm with you and Blake on the smoked paprika, it is definitely one of the best spices. I love it on potato wedges and in yellow split pea soup.

    1. I love it on potatoes, and yellow split pea soup too! In fact, the last split pea soup I made was good, but it wasn't the same because I had no smoked paprika.

  3. That is so cute that your kitties are going nuts for the Tofurky. They have a very good mum to go out and get it for them. <3
    Good luck finding Sprouts tomorrow!

Much agreed! I love all the flavors but the oil is off putting. Like I get the Trader Joe chorizo often (it is a life saver!) but I hate opening the container since the oil is so red and intense.

    1. That's the kind that I trued firs, and that red oil was a serious turn off! I think the Field Roast version is the same.
