Soup and Reading

I had all of these plans to cook yesterday, I have a recipe video from a new to me YouTube channel already drafted, just waiting for me to make the recipe myself. I also thought of what I hope is going to be a tasty add in to some vegan chocolate chip cookies. I just lost all energy late morning and felt almost like i was fighting off something. I really think I'm just going through some feelings, and lots of things from the past that haven't been dealt with, and it just kind of hit me yesterday. It was one of those days when I really wish my cats knew how to cook. Chunk desperately wants to learn, but the no thumbs thing makes learning difficult. I felt like I wanted a pot of soup with all the vegetables and herbs, but the problem was not having the energy to go to the store to buy all the vegetables, not to mention chopping them all. So, I settled for my old easy stand by, Greek lentil soup. It couldn't be easier, red lentils, onion and garlic, or one or the other, cumin, salt and pepper and water. Red lentils cook so fast, you have soup in like fifteen minutes. I told this story before, but on the last day I lived in Seattle before my ill fated move to PA. (so glad to be back in Seattle!) I got it at some random place in the food court of the northgate mall. I don't even remember what I was doing at the mall, because I loathe malls but anyway I had this amazing soup, and once I moved to PA. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and somehow I remembered the name of this place and called and asked for the recipe. It's so funny because the ingredients are so simple! Before this soup, I had only had cumin with other spices, never as the star of the dish. It deserves to shine more!
I wish the red lentils didn't lose so much of their color, this picture would look a lot prettier! It made me feel better, and even though I had to make it myself, it was super easy and I felt like I took care of myself. It made me feel better than a beer ever could.
I'm off to the library to pick up a book that I have been waiting for FOREVER! Seriously, when I asked about it, I remember the librarian said there was a list of ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY PEOPLE in front of me! In all my years of library patronage, I have never heard of that! I asked if I should even bother, and she said it would go faster than I would think. I guess she was right, because I can't believe it's here. It's called Blackout : Remembering the things I drank to forget by Sarah Hepola. I think it's going to be a very important read for me. I just love finding the perfect book.
I'm hoping I will feel motivated to spend some time in the kitchen when I come home!
Have you read any good books lately?
