I found this sauce awhile ago at Smith's and my plan was to use it on jackfruit. I changed my mind yesterday and decided to make cauliflower wings and instead of doing the usual General Tso sauce use this. I battered the cauliflower in a teff/garbanzo flour mixture and bake them, then added this sauce and bake again. They turned out AHMAZING!
I haven't had cauliflower wings in such a long time! I used to have them at least once, sometimes twice a week! I don't know why I ever stopped!
I remember seeing this over the summer and laughing to myself thinking who the heck is going to pay for banana ice cream when it's so easy to make?? Fast forward to me, red faced eating my words because I paid for banana soft serve! It does have sugar which is something I'm avoiding, but it has less sugar than vegan yogurt which I was thinking of getting. I like to have a little sweet treat after dinner, and although I love oranges and grapes, sometimes I want something more decadent. Since I don't have any frozen bananas I caved and picked this up to try. I took a bite when I got home and it pretty much tastes like banana and strawberry nice cream. Which is good, they didn't add a bunch of sweeteners and weird fake flavors. When I have more than a taste I'll report back!
OMG those wings!!!! They look so incredible! I feel like I would love to make cauliflower wings but I'm too lazy to make them most of the time. Maybe one day I'll take advantage of a burst of energy and make them because they look incredible!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the ice cream was good at least. I know what you mean about sometimes just needing a sweet treat. I actually really like that brand's frozen fruit bar popsicle things but they can be pricey so I just treat myself when they are on sale.
You can make them just with the batter first and probably freeze them and then cook them with sauce later.
DeleteI love their lemon fruit bars on a hot summer day! Oh and also the lime bars. But I know, they are pricey!
I agree with Sarah. Damn, those wings!
ReplyDeleteSo, to make the batter to you just add water to the GF flour mixture? And are the cauliflower raw when you start out or do you parboil it first? I think we need a recipe here.
Yes, make the batter like a really thick pancake batter. I learned the hard way that a too thin batter means nothing sticks and it makes a mess. I bake them at 400 with just the batter for thirty to forty minutes, then toss them with a decent amount of whatever sauce I'm using and bake them at 350 for about fifteen or twenty minutes. I don't parboil them, just batter them raw.
DeleteI saw that banana ice cream the other day and thought the same thing! :-) Also, those cauliflower wings look AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteI know, I really am perturbed at myself for buying it!! But that's desperation for you! At least it is tasty!
DeleteYay for cauliflower wings!
ReplyDeleteSometimes convenience of buying trumps ease of making.
I really missed cauliflower wings. It is one of the only two ways I'll eat cauliflower!
DeleteI think I haven't had cauliflower in a while because it seems expensive compared to other veggies, but that's ridiculous because I love it and it's good for me. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteAs someone with energy levels that often betray me, I fully support doing whatever makes sense at the time. If that's buying frozen bananas in a tub, go for it.
I think Trader Joe's has the best price for cauliflower. It's under two dollars a head. A lot of places charge per pound and that can add up!
DeleteSometimes convenience is worth the cost!
Your cauliflower wings look incredible, and the sauce sounds super delicious!
