Here is what I collected all week. To be honest there should be like ten million more tea bags. It only occurred to me yesterday morning that I should have been including my tea bags. I know I usually produce a lot more waste so like I said, this really opened my eyes.
I know that it isn't food, but being vegan isn't just about food. We exploit animals in all kinds of ways. I don't wear much make up. Mascara and lipstick is it for me, and most of the time I skip mascara but I always like a bright lip. Always. I mix these two colors by wet and wild and it makes the nicest plummy pink. I get ten million compliments a week on this color. When I tell people it's wet and wild most people are shocked. If you're on a budget check them out. All of their make up is affordable, vegan and cruelty free.
I use coconut oil to moisturize my face and body. It's cheaper than any vegan eco friendly lotion you'll find, and it works better than any lotion I've ever used! And I live in Salt Lake City, UT. where there is like zero humidity. Dry, dry, dry!!! Always get virgin or unrefined.
Not quite food, but closer! My first batch of home brewed booch is ready! I flavored it with cherry juice and let it do a little second ferment. It's in the fridge getting cold now. I can't wait to try it! I'm going to get my second batch going today so I always have homemade kombucha!! Notice my shredded couch in the background!! Cats!
Happy Caturday!! |
You did a great job with the zero waste challenge! Those colors are so pretty! If you are looking to branch out with affordable vegan makeup check out Elf. They have some pretty good products at great prices. I really love their mineral lipstick and they are like $3 each. They have very pretty colors and a great formula. I don't know much about their mascara but their liquid eyeliner is my holy grail if that is something you would venture into.
ReplyDeleteYay for the kombucha! I can't wait to hear how you like it. And yay for kitties!! I love Caturday :)
I've heard good things about ELF. I'll have to try their lipstick. I wish I knew how to do eyeliner but I am horrible with makeup!
DeleteThe kombucha turned out great! Not quite as fizzy as I'd like, but I can adjust that! I already have my second batch going!
I’m SO impressed by how little waste you collected! I think most teabags actually break down quickly and are made from a paper base...? Such a fun lip color! Lipstick really is an amazing mood booster and i always feel more ready to face the world with some on :)) hope the booch is tasty!

It was hard. I have all the respect for zero waste devotees because it is TOUGH!
DeleteI feel like a good slick of lipstick just wakes up your face. And I like a bright lip!
The booch is super tasty, I just need to make it fizzier. I think that requires a longer ferment time??
The carbonation takes a while to get right, a longer second fermentation definitely helps. Did you add a little sugar with the flavoring to the bottles? The booch needs the sugar to “eat” as it ferments and then makes bubbles.
DeleteAnd i have found some flavors or juices work better for carbonation than others, who knows why. You can always just make a bottle of plain booch to get the bubbles and then add a splash of juice to your glass when you pour it

I did add a little sugar to the second ferment but I don't think I let it go long enough. Next time I'll go a couple more days.
DeleteThat's really impressive for your zero-waste week! Cute cuddly kitties!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was TOUGH!
DeleteOooohhhh... I can't wait to hear how your kombucha turns out!
ReplyDeleteZero waste is something I definitely find overwhelming, there is packaging everywhere! I have just been focusing on small changes where I can. So now I use soap instead of body wash, and I just bought some washable cotton face pads for cleaning my face at night. I will never be able to be zero waste, but little steps can still make a big difference. I hope.
The kombucha is good, actually you would love it because it isn't too fizzy!!
DeleteI feel the same way about zero waste. It's a lot, but I did learn a lot and I do feel like if we all try to just make little small changes it will add up! Something is better than nothing!! I use bar soap too!
