Vegan Hauls and Bowls

As I mentioned yesterday, I got some groceries on Saturday. Trader Joe's was worse than usual, and I have to admit I missed my days of smoking cigarettes when I left, because I really felt like I needed one. I swear I could write a book on how not to act in a crowded grocery. Anyway, I survived and lived to see another day.
Romaine,red onion, tofu,green olives,fire roasted tomatoes,coconut oil, black olives,tomato paste,artichoke hearts,onion, oranges,lemons,frozen corn,frozen mango and strawberries,iceberg lettuce,carrots,tahini, Persian cucumbers,Korean style BBQ sauce, red lentils and black beans
Potatoes,grapefruit,dried garbanzo beans,bulk hemp seeds,spicy pickles,celery,jalapenos,cilantro and green onion,parsley,avocado,red onion

I also braved Smith's for a few random things. Smith's was much more tolerable even on a Saturday afternoon. It was a nice relief. I'm planning on having lots of salad type bowls and juices and smoothies over the next week. And of course potatoes as always! I swear I can't go more than a few days without potatoes in my life!
Speaking of salad type bowls, last night I had this delicious burrito bowl. I've really missed burritos since going gluten free. I just refuse to pay the high price for gluten free wraps that are not pliable, and leave a lot to be desired taste-wise. So I whipped up some salsa fresca from Mrs. Plant and made a bowl with black beans, lettuce, rice, fire roasted corn, red onion, salsa and of course avocado. This hit the spot. Oh, there's a little jalapeno in there for spice too. I cooked the black beans from scratch, and I added lots of garlic, cumin and smoked paprika to the cooking water and they tasted fantastic! This was one of those meals that was hearty and filling but not heavy. Yum.
And here's Joan trying desperately to get at that pesky squirrel who likes to stop and stare in the window. It seriously drives her insane!

  1. I like some of the gluten free burrito wraps- but they are usually NOTHING like a flour tortilla. And as always it stinks how much more they are in price.

    1. Which ones do you like? The few I've tried have been pretty bad. I read that Follow Your heart has gluten free wraps that are pretty good, but so far I haven't been able to find them anywhere.

  2. Oooh, that bowl sounds amazing! Mmmmmm.....

I typically love grocery shopping at night (esp on, like, a Friday or Saturday night) when it's much less busy. Busy grocery stores are the worst.

    1. Yes, evening or early morning is really the best time to grocery shop. I love shopping, and I get so stressed when it's so busy and not enjoyable!
      Burrito bowls are the best!

  3. Heading to Trader Joe's on a Saturday is very brave! I'm proud of you, I'd NEVER do that! I'm an early morning shopper, I can't stand it after that. The haul looks great and that bowl is gorgeous!

  4. I am so with you, early morning is definitely the best time to shop. It's quiet and peaceful and you feel like you can really browse and think about what you're buying.

  5. Ack. Crowded shopping centres are so icky. I am glad you got a good haul at least.

Burritos are cool, being that I can eat gluten so can enjoy an actual proper wrap, but I think I might actually like burrito bowls more anyway. They seem much more satisfying. Plus pretty. I am terrible at taking nice photos of wraps!

    1. I am the worst at taking pictures of wraps, and also sandwiches have always been an issue for me.
I like burrito bowls because you don't have to worry about how much stuff your putting in the bowl, cause you don't have to wrap anything!

    2. The number of times I have had filling bust out of a wrap I've been making because I try and put too much in it... bowls are so much more accommodating. ;)

    3. That used to happen to me all the time!! My eyes were always bigger than my wraps!

  6. I have been getting so bored with food lately - I have been doing a lot of wraps/burritos and salads because they are easy and the possibilities are endless. I need to throw more BOWLS in!
