Sunday Stuff

On Friday I was going to make pupusas again and cook them on the stove top to compare to baking them. I still plan on doing that I promise, but I was kind of craving pizza, so I decided to see if you can make a pizza crust with masa flour. I'm happy to report that yes you can! I just made the dough the same way as pupusa dough, which is just the flour and water, and I added some cumin and smoked paprika. Then I baked the dough alone for about fifteen minutes, and then topped it with fire roasted tomatoes, green olives, onion, nooch and smoked Gouda daiya cheese. After it was done baking I topped it with avocado chunks. Delicious!
Saturday I went to the library to find a book I've been dying to read. Unfortunately they didn't have the book, but the librarian who helped me was so nice, she searched and found out that you can do a loan where it comes from a different library in a different city or in this case state. So, as soon as it is shipped I will be able to read it! I have always been someone who lives on the lonelier side of life. And I have always felt awkward in a lot of social situations, like I don't fit in. As a kid, and now as an adult. I have even been in situations with vegans and felt like I am the odd woman out. But libraries have always felt like home to me. I feel totally comfortable, and I feel like the people at libraries are my people. My mom loved reading, and loved libraries and although we had a very stormy relationship, we shared a love of reading and libraries. The days we went to the library were always good days, and memories that I cherish. I hope libraries and books never ever go away.
Here's a few from the third floor where the cookbooks are. It's the non-fiction floor. I just love that mountains are everywhere in this city!
Here are my choices. I could have gotten sooooo many more books, but I also needed to go to Trader Joe's so I couldn't go crazy. Afro approves of my choices. I find that as I'm trying to stay woke as the kids say with all that's going on with Dump in office, I've been wanting light funny reads to kind of balance out the shock, anger, fear, and deep sadness I feel. I also have been feeling a little low energy and blue so I hope to learn some stuff from Brendan Brazier.
I thought of Sarah when I saw this at Trader Joe's! And look at that price, so so much cheaper than anywhere else! I heard two employees talking about it and they were saying it's extremely popular and everyone has been looking for it. They were completely sold out of canned jackfruit too! Which is great, hopefully it will encourage them to stay on top of these vegan trends!!
I'll show my grocery haul tomorrow, but spoiler alert I got more of the Korean style BBQ sauce which I truly cannot recommend enough. When I got home I was exhausted and just wanted something simple. So, I made some coconut rice and just baked some tofu with the BBQ sauce. Super simple dinner in like twenty minutes.
Here's my pretty Joan deep in sleep. She gave me an extra cute pose when she saw I was taking a picture. She loves the camera!
I'll be back tomorrow with my grocery haul. A few weird things happened yesterday which I'm still processing. One of which is finding out my neighbors had someone break into their apartment and steal some guns. Apparently they have many. That makes me sick and very nervous, and the fact that there was a break in makes me nervous too. I mean, I have NOTHING to steal, even my laptop is used, but people don't know that before breaking in. And I don't like living next to people with guns. Anyway, today I process and all of that.
Happy Sunday!

  1. I feel the same way lately, just trying to be more lighthearted in every day life to try to keep the negativity of the current presidential situation out of the forefront of my mind. Unless I'm on twitter, then I just retweet everything hoping that he gets impeached! Didn't mean to turn this political, just can't take him trying to ruin our country. Anyway, I'm excited that you could make a pizza crust out of masa. I love libraries too. I had a kindle at one time but nothing compares to turning the pages of a good book. Stay safe!

    1. I feel the same way. I retweet anything I see about Dump and the rest of his evil squad hoping that it helps get them out of there. It's just such a helpless feeling.
The masa flour worked really well, I'll definitely be making more pizza with that dough!
I used to have a Nook, and it just wasn't the same as turning pages. There's just something magical about a book!

  2. Awww Joan, so cute! I'm so with you on loving both reading and libraries, I had to get an e-reader for travel because I read so much that my hand luggage backpack just doesn't have space for all of the books I need! I remember enjoying that Sarah Dessen book so I hope you enjoy it.

    1. Libraries are the best. I especially love checking out cookbooks as they can be so pricey. And most libraries have a pretty decent vegan selection.
I just started reading the Sarah Dessen book yesterday. I didn't realize it's a teen novel, it was in a section that had recommended books from people who work there. I am enjoying it so far, so even though I'm far from a teen I'll definitely finish it. I love teen angst movies and such.

  3. I also love libraries. I worked in the library in high school. My sister works in a library. I have my own library with lots of books. We are having a Literacy Night @ my job tomorrow evening. I am in charge of the Book Fair.
I love your picture of the mountains. Years ago, I visited Alaska and in every direction are beautiful mountains. Our Creator God sure did Good work. Today was a beautiful day, even though it was only 29 degrees this am. We had so much rain last week. It was so good to see blue skies and fluffy white clouds today. It was a long day @ work, but I am off tomorrow due to an appointment. I will have to go to work in the evening for a few hours.
I just don't know what to fix for supper tonight. Only two small potatoes left, so it won't be fries, ha ha.
Do you stay up late reading? If I get to reading, sometimes it's too hard to put the book down. With working, I find that I'm am sleeping better lately. If I could get my feet and leg pain to ease up, sleep would be even better. Well enough of my aches & pains..... have a nice evening!

    1. Libraries are really my favorite place. I just love all the books, and I love wandering the aisles and discovering new books. I felt the same way seeing the sun after many days of rain. It was so nice!
I do have a bad habit of saying one more chapter, and then one more chapter until it's way later than I expected!
Maybe try soaking in some epsom salts for your legs and feet? It's really good for relieving tired sore muscles!

  4. That's disturbing on a number of counts about the break in and the guns. I would be concerned as well!
I am glad you had a good library experience, and that you will eventually get to read the book you wanted. I love libraries! Though lately they seem to be getting smaller and smaller.
I think that any time is pizza time!

  5. I know. I hate knowing that my neighbors have tons of guns, and it'sl scary that some maniac now has a few more guns on the street. I really don't like guns, and I don't know why people who love guns always have to own so many. It makes no sense to me.
I'm super happy that the library here in SLC is very big. Three floors! It makes me sad when people talk about libraries and books going away. We need more, not less.

    1. I am very anti gun, they scare me a lot. I am glad that Australia has super strict gun laws.

    2. I am anti gun too. Unfortunately we are very lax with gun laws here, and it just makes me sick. And I am not happy to have neighbors who have so many guns. It makes me sick to be honest with you.

  6. Your pizza & BBQ tofu bowl both look awesome! I'm sorry to hear about your neighbors' break-in/gun situation; it sounds scary for sure! Thinking good thoughts for you as you process all of that. <3

    1. Thank you. I feel very uncomfortable living next to gun fanatics. As my neighbor was talking to me he mentioned having quite a few guns. It's just all very strange and scary.
