Heavy Heart

I'm feeling a little sad today. Two days in a row I've woken up to the news of yet another senseless shooting. I know this is a vegan blog and all, and I should stick to that topic, but I am of the belief that all of these problems are vegan problems. So, I'm not going to go on and on about my opinions, but I am feeling very sad for humanity today. I don't have any optimistic thoughts about how far the vegan movement has come, because today I feel we've all taken yet another step back. I will say this, we need less guns, not more.
I was able to of course find kitties being "naturally adorable" (a million points for anyone who recognizes that quote from Devious Maids) so it cheered me up, and I hope they give someone else the smiles!
Look at that belly!
Hug those you love!
I had this beautiful bowl of fruit yesterday. The cherries were pretty good, but the grapes were exceptional!
I needed something to take my mind off of reality for awhile, so I listened to my absolute favorite non vegan, non political podcast, Linoleum Knife which is a podcast where this awesome couple reviews movies. Alonso Duralde who any Young Turks viewers might recognize from What The Flick, and Dave White who reviews movies for The Wrap are the couple. They do the podcast in their home while having coffee and preparing brunch, and I just love it. The lonely person that I am imagines myself hanging with them, just listening to them, and making some awesome vegan brunch items to add to the mix. Anyway, they review various movies, and what I lovew is that they do review the standard mainstream "blockbusters" but they also review a lot of independent and foreign films. It's my happy place.  So, I listened to them and rolled some sushi. It's getting easier and easier.
I made carrot, carrot and avocado, and tofu rolls. I used Trader Joe's baked tofu in savory flavor. It was savory all right. I rarely buy baked tofu because it's almost triple the price of plain tofu, but this was worth it.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday, feeling and being safe and surrounded by love. We need so much more love and kindness in this world.

  1. I think the country is becoming accustomed to domestic terrorism. Focusing on your gorgeous felines is an excellent suggestion.

  2. I am right there with you. My heart is broken for the city and for those that lost someone they love. The kitty pictures are a beautiful distraction during such a sad time.

  3. Love the photographs today. And yes, all these shootings are so disheartening. I don't get why there is such a divide with guns. The scary thing is that The Daily Show did a report showing that most pro-gun/NRA member do in fact support gun control, they just don't call it that.

  4. I read this post the other night but didn't comment because I was reading on my iPad and not signed in on google to do so. That and I think I was in the same boat you were in not knowing what to say, how to say it, or what I should do...
