In my opinion this is one of the best values at Trader Joe's. It's vegan and gluten free, and it doesn't have a bunch of funky ingredients. It's either $.79 or $.99 for a packet, and it's pretty strong so I get like three or four uses out of one pack. A bit of this with some black beans you have delicious and super cheap taco filling! Which is what I did last night!
I just sauteed red onion, black beans, and corn in a little coconut oil with some of the taco seasoning. Taco filling in five minutes!! I know crunchy shells aren't authentic, but they were dang tasty and I love that crunch!
I'm a crunchy taco gal myself. Just take off those nasty red onions and - yummy - sign me up!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny that you loathe red onions! I was thinking they made the taco!!
DeleteDon't apologize for those crunchy shells! They're delicious!! :-) I'll have to look for that taco seasoning mix next time I go out to TJ's.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good! It actually has a little spice to ot which I love!!
DeleteThanks for an easy taco recipe.Always looking to try new ones and this looks like a winner for my next batch.👍🏻
ReplyDeleteHa, tacos are the best!
DeleteOooh those tacos look delicious!! I don't know why but I always forget about tacos and I need to eat them more often!
ReplyDeleteI used to eat tacos a lot more often when I could have flour soft shells!! The best!
DeleteThat taco spice is my favorite! It instantly makes anything “taco”! I actually used it to make a taco soup a while back :)) it was really just a bunch of veggies and beans with canned tomatoes and that magical taco spice!
ReplyDeleteI’m a soft tacos only person, but that’s because where i grew up in CA has a large mexican population so we would get fresh tortillas all the time, not just for tacos . A soft tortilla smeared with pb with sliced apples was one of my favorite after school snacks ;)

I loved flour soft tacos before going gluten free. I want to try and make homemade corn tortillas. When I buy them at the store I can taste the preservatives or something.
DeleteI grew up with crunchy taco shells, they were all we knew in my youth. Now I love the soft tortillas, but I also get a kick out of the crunchy ones.
ReplyDeleteCrunchy shells are what I grew up on too!! I like to get sentimental and have a crunch!!
DeleteMy mum gets disappointed when I made soft tacos.
DeleteI remember BEGGING my Mom to get the crunchy taco shells. She always said it was because they were too expensive, but they are so cheap, I wonder if she just didn't like them (or they were more expensive back in the day) Instead we just fried our corn tortillas to the high heavens lol. We also did the whole taco seasoning thing, but I don't anymore, oddly out of laziness lol
ReplyDeleteIt's weird because growing up my mom was a health nut, but she always bought the crunchy shells. If I weren't so scared of frying I would try to fry some!!
Deletelol I don't think you should be frying the shells like my family did. My Dad just has a heavy hand with the oils (which didn't mean yummier food) I think I prefer just lightly spraying oil on my cast iron skillet and warming and lightly frying/crisping them up.
