Another Budget Vegan Grocery Haul!
I finally made it to the grocery store! It was nice because I was able to go early in the morning before the sun was ready to completely cook you. Sprouts opens at seven and Trader Joe's at eight so it worked out perfectly! Sometimes on the weekends stores can be busy early because lots of other people have the same idea of avoiding crowds, but on a weekday even Trader Joe's is blissfully calm!! It was heaven after the very stressful week I've had. It was also nice knowing where I was going and not getting lost! I went to Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Smith's. I just took a picture of everything together because I really only got a few things at each place.
I saw these at Smith's and I think they're new too! I've never known Boca to make Turk'y burgers. But it's definitely nice to see another vegan option. I've always loved their spicy chick'n burgers and also their original vegan burger, or griller or whatever it's called. And I know a lot of omnis that love Boca. I also read that Morningstar Farms Buffalo wings, Chick'n nuggets and Buffalo Chick'n patties are now vegan!! I used to love all three of those things so it's awesome that they're now vegan! And I bet they taste exactly the same! I also read that Quorn is investing millions of dollars in developing their own "bleeding burger"! This has to show that more people than just us vegans are interested and buying vegan meats right? I'm super happy lower priced companies like Morningstar, Boca and Quorn are getting in on the vegan action. A lot of meat eaters look for sales and discounts on meat, and there is no way they will ever pay the high prices of some of these meats I see and that does not help animals. I mean I guess for wealthy omnis it does but I want mass appeal. It's all exciting though! It's getting easier and easier to be vegan!

Hooray for a successful grocery run! The sweet potato glass noodles sound interesting; looking forward to seeing what you make with them! How cool about the Boca turk'y burger, and that's awesome that more Morningstar products are vegan now; I'll have to keep an eye out for them!
ReplyDeleteThe noodles are great! I made a lemongrass noodles soup and loved them!
DeleteJust read the ingredients first on the Morningstar farms products. I'm sure they want to sell out of the vegetarian versions first so just be cautious!
Highly interesting post.So glad Morningstar is switching to more vegan friendly. We seem to get tons of that and right now none of it is vegan. They seem to have an unlimited supply of it and appear to never run out so cant wait to find some vegan ones.Turky Burger and kombucha soda look pretty good too.I think I would have tried the regular as I'm a huge cola fan.

Thank you for reminding me. I forgot to mention yesterday that everyone should still read the labels on Morningstar farms because I'm sure they're going to sell out of the vegetarian versions first and frozen food has a long shelf life!
DeleteThe soda is so good, I want to get another six pack while they're still on sale. I'm not sure if I'll get the cola or Dr. pepper!
You were so crazy productive hitting all three stores!
ReplyDeleteI haven’t bought any Quorn products in a long time, they used to have egg whites or something in them at one point and although i’m not vegan (just a lactose intolerant vegetarian who hates eggs ;)) i do choose egg free options when possible. Really fantastic they’re expanding to more products!
Kellogg’s actually owns the morningstar brand, and here’s the kicker- some products are covered by EBT aka food stamps. Which is freaking awesome- i want to see the day when ALL faux meats qualify under EBT! Also helps explain why they’re widely distributed and smaller more expensive brands are not.
I’ve never seen sweet potato glass noodles!

I'm lucky in that Sprouts, Natural grocers, Trader Joe's and Smiths are all in the same area so it makes it easy to hit them all for the best prices.
DeleteWhen I was vegetarian I love Quorn! Almost all of their stuff has egg whites and it's so frustrating! I know they're coming around but I still haven't seen any vegan products from them. That's great news about Morning Star. This is great news all around!
They were right by all of the rice and soba noodles in the Asian section. Although I think they're pretty new there. They're very similar to mung bean noodles.
It is cool to see more products working on veganising their ranges. But yes, the price points are often going to be what keeps curious omnis away. Especially those not in a financial position to have that in their budget.
ReplyDeleteAt least Morningstar farms and quorn products are a little cheaper. And I know lots of omnis who actually love morningstar farms!
Delete"I also read that Morningstar Farms Buffalo wings, Chick'n nuggets and Buffalo Chick'n patties are now vegan!!"
ReplyDeleteYAAAAASSS! *runs around screaming* I LOVED the buffalo wings! But then I realised they weren't vegan as I progressively got more serious about veganism. It has been years but I still get sad that I can't have them. Everything else has been too expensive, or not the same. So I will keep my eye out for those, and those sodas. I really want to try them.
